Minister of Infrastructures Ben Eliezer Signs for the First Time on Two Solar Power Plant Licenses

Binyamin (Fuad) Ben Eliezer, Minister of National Infrastructures, signed today (Monday) for the first time on two licenses for production and supply of electricity by means of solar energy facilities.

The first license was given to “Edig Solar”. This company created the solar facility in Kibbutz Samar, which uses thermo-solar technology and has an installed power capacity of up to 100 Kilowatt.

The second license was given to “Arava Power”. This company will create in Kibbutz Ktora of Hevel Eilot a solar facility, which will use photovoltaic technology and have an installed power capacity of up to 4.9 Megawatt.

These two licenses are probationary. The license holders will receive a permanent license only if they fulfill the stated conditions.

Ben Eliezer said after the signing that it is a significant milestone in Israel’s solar energy revolution. “I hope that following these first licenses, many private producers will start producing renewable-energy based electricity. This is just the opening shot. Israel’s electricity industry cries out for this clean energy, and - as it was laid down in the Government’s objectives – the place to start with is the Negev and the Arava”.

Minister Ben Eliezer commended and thanked the experts of both the Ministry of Infrastructures and the Public Utility Authority – Electricity.
